Cuff or helix — which do you need?

• Ear cuffs need no piercing at all. They grip the outer edge of the ear and can be moved or removed at will — the easiest way to get a stacked, multi-piercing look without committing to one.
• Helix earrings go through an upper-ear cartilage piercing. If you have one, these are sized for it; if you do not, start with a cuff.

Wearing a cuff comfortably

Slide it on from the outer edge and position it where the ear is thinnest — usually about a third of the way down the upper curve. It should hold without pinching. If you feel it after ten minutes, it is too tight; ease it open very slightly rather than forcing it each time you wear it.

A note on cartilage piercings

Cartilage takes far longer to heal than a lobe — commonly six to twelve months — and is more prone to irritation. Nickel-free metal genuinely matters here. For a brand-new cartilage piercing, follow your piercer's advice on initial jewellery; this range is intended for healed piercings.
