How to Measure Your Wrist for a Silver Bracelet (Size Guide)
Share
Bracelet sizing trips people up more than ring sizing, because a bracelet is meant to move. Too tight and it digs in when you type; too loose and it slides over your hand. Here is how to measure your wrist size and choose the right length.
How do you measure your wrist at home?
You need a strip of paper and a ruler.
Cut a strip of paper about 1 cm wide.
Wrap it around your wrist just below the wrist bone, on the side towards your hand — this is where a bracelet naturally sits.
Bring it snug against the skin without compressing it.
Mark the overlap point with a pen.
Unwrap and measure to the mark in centimetres or inches.
That number is your bare wrist measurement. It is not your bracelet size — you need to add ease, which is the next step.
A flexible tailor's tape works too. Avoid a metal ruler wrapped around, and avoid stretchy string, which will read short.
How much ease should you add?
Ease is the extra length that lets the bracelet sit comfortably and drape. How much you add depends on the fit you want:
Fit
Add to wrist measurement
Feels like
Snug
1.0 – 1.5 cm (about 0.5 in)
Sits close, minimal movement
Comfort (recommended)
2.0 cm (about 0.75 in)
Slides slightly, does not spin freely
Loose / draped
2.5 – 3.0 cm (about 1 in)
Hangs and moves, more visible
For most people, comfort fit is the right choice for an everyday bracelet. Snug suits a piece you wear while working at a desk; loose suits a statement chain.

What does 7 + 1 inch adjustable actually mean?
You will see this on most of our bracelets, and it is genuinely useful. It means the bracelet is 7 inches at its shortest, with an extra 1 inch of extender chain carrying additional fastening points.
In practice you get any length between 7 and 8 inches — which covers a comfort fit for wrists from roughly 15.5 cm to 18.5 cm. That is the majority of adult wrists, and it is why adjustable chains are the safest choice when you are unsure or buying a gift. All House of Binti chain bracelets, including the Paperclip Link Bracelet and the Classic Evil Eye Bracelet, are 7 + 1 inch adjustable.
Does the style change the size you need?
Yes — three things matter:
Chain width. A wide, flat chain sits more stiffly than a fine one and feels tighter at the same length. Add a little extra ease for chunky chains.
Charms and beads. A bracelet with a dangling charm, like the Evil Eye Charm Bracelet, hangs better with slightly more room so the charm can sit where you want it.
Fixed bangles and kadas. These do not adjust, so the critical measurement is not your wrist but the widest part of your hand — measure across your knuckles with your thumb tucked in, since the bangle has to pass over that.
When is the best time to measure?
Measure at the end of the day. Wrists swell slightly through the day and in hot weather.
Measure your dominant wrist if you plan to wear the bracelet there — it is often marginally larger.
Measure twice and take the larger reading.
Do not measure straight after exercise, when you are temporarily swollen.
How should you stack bracelets?
If you want to layer, add about 0.5 cm of extra ease across the stack — bracelets compete for the same space and a set that fits individually can feel tight together.
For a balanced stack, mix textures rather than repeating one: a flat chain, a beaded piece and a charm bracelet read better together than three identical chains. The Evil Eye Orb Bracelet (box chain) and Classic Black Bead Bracelet (faceted beads) are an easy pairing.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know my bracelet size? Measure your bare wrist just below the wrist bone, then add about 2 cm for a comfortable everyday fit.
What is the most common bracelet size for women? A 7 inch bracelet fits the majority of adult women, which is why it is the standard starting length.
Should a bracelet be tight or loose? Neither — it should slide a little on your wrist but not spin freely or slip over your hand.
How do I measure a wrist for a surprise gift? Measure a bracelet they already wear, laid flat end to end, or choose an adjustable 7 + 1 inch design to be safe.
Can a silver bracelet be shortened? Yes — chain bracelets can usually have links removed by a jeweller. Adjustable chains rarely need it.
